Sarah Jo Eversole

Everbloom Fields

I always had a love of nature, growing, and flowers even as a child. Roughly 7 years ago, my daughter was born with health issues that required full-time care, so I quit my job as a data analyst to stay home with her. We needed additional income so  I decided to start the flower farm on an additional lot behind our house that we owned. There was only one other flower farmer in North Texas at the time, who had also just started, so the farm took off pretty quickly.

Show Notes

  1. Sarah Jo started her business to replace her income and make money.  This gave her a slightly different point of view as she started her business.

  2. Beginning her sales in farmer’s markets, Sarah Jo used this channel to make connections with other growers and florists.  Then eventually transitioned her business to sell mostly to florists.

  3. By listening to the florists that were her customers, she found gaps or opportunities for flowers she could grow to meet specific needs for her customers.  With high quality flowers she was able to get higher prices for her products than at the local farmers market.

  4. Over time she eliminated certain crops because of their profitability or their blooming window.  If they weren’t blooming during the busy wedding season she eliminated them.

  5. Sarah Jo believes in tapping into educational opportunities of all kinds.  She’s gone to floral meetings and conferences, ASCFG educational meet-ups, and utilized local SBA resources.

  6. I really liked her last point.  Learn your business and know your business to find ways to help it grow profitability and to serve you and your needs.
