Show Notes

  1. It’s important not to underestimate the value in learning, even basic mechanics.  It’s these mechanics that will empower you to create new and different designs or installations with confidence.

  2. Don’t be afraid to take on non-floral projects that still use your creativity.  These projects don’t use perishable products a lot of the time and can help to fill off season times.

  3. Feel confident to tackle the big floral projects.  Knowing the mechanics and good techniques, will push you out of your comfort zone.

  4. Rebranding might be a good thing for your company.  Begin with deciding what’s the story you want to tell.  This can help you define the look you want as you rebrand.

  5. One of Meg’s mentors said to never say no when talking to clients.  You can do it if you now the basics, it’s just figuring out the mechanics which everyone has to do too.

  6. I like the managing questions Meg asked - Would you rather have me promise a specific flower or deliver on your vision?

  7. She prices her floral budgets based on a percentage of the overall budget.  This might take getting used to depending on how you currently create your floral list, but it might also give you a degree of freedom as you choose the best of what’s in season.

  8. Meg also mentioned the book StrengthFinders 2.0.  She thought it was very helpful to go through with her team.

  9. Focus on creating a cohesive look rather than obsessing on a couple of specific flowers.  If you have small quantities of special flowers you can find highly visible places to show them off to create a special moment.
