Martha Lojewski
Alaska Peony Cooperative/Sales Manager
The Alaska Peony Cooperative was formally established in the spring of 2015 as a way to bring together farmers and represent them as a unified voice in the specialty cut flower market. Our principles of responsibility, stewardship and cooperation allow us to achieve more collectively than as individual farms. We take great pride in helping our member-farmers succeed at growing the very best for our customers. We serve those needing only 20 stems to brighten their day, as well as florists, event planners and wholesales serving a larger market. It is our pleasure to present premium Alaska grown Peonies, on behalf of our farmers, to peony lovers across North America.

Show Notes
The Alaska Peony Cooperative has a season starting June 29th and hopefully shipping through August 13th.
So much of our industry is driven by supply and demand, which is true for peonies. But remember the costs of growing and shipping in a remote area like Alaska may be different to what you’re used to.
When planning your business and the crops you’re going to grow, make sure you look at your target market and decide which flowers they want.
Even though it can be inconvenient and challenging at times, keep up with your paperwork. It will help you with focusing on what is working and give you direction.
If you’re a flower farmer, consider reaching out to Cal-Flowers and see if they can help you with freight costs.
Work with your carriers, they may be able to help you find ways to cut costs with packaging and shipping.
When creating a marketing campaign make sure you do your research before you launch.
